Michael J. Melnick, 85, of Simpson died Sunday at the River Street Manor, Wilkes Barre. His wife is the former, Mary Ann Ruddy. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July.

Born in Archbald, he was the son of the late Michael & Julia Brojack Melnick. He was a graduate of Archbald High School. He served as a military police officer with the Air Force and had served on the Honor Guard for President Eisenhower. Mike had been employed by Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford, CT. and then Telephone Engineer Co., Simpson until retirement.

Mike played baseball and football in high school. He also enjoyed soft ball in his younger years. He was a member of the former Simpson Bowling League.  Mike was a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, now St. Rose Parish, St. Michael’s Church, Simpson.  He was a member of the Hricak-McAndrew American Legion Post # 869, Archbald and the Walter Paciga V.F.W. Post # 4712, Simpson.  Mike was also a recipient of the American Legion school award.

He was an avid fan of Penn State and Steelers football. He enjoyed completing word finds.

Mike was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed by his loving family and beloved cat “Cuddles”.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Michael Melnick and Linda, Greenfield Township, Glenn Melnick and Lisa, Simpson, a daughter, Laura Melnick, Simpson, a sister Mary Ann Aigeldinger, Dickson City, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers John & Ted.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment with military honors will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM.
