Alexander “Alex” Kowalako, 90, formerly of Simpson died Saturday at the Carbondale Nursing Home.  His wife, the former Carol Renczkowski, died in 2020.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late Eli and Kathryn Kolcun Kowalako. He was a graduate of Fell High School and served in the Air Force. Upon returning to Simpson he joined his brother, Michael in a milk delivery route. Later, he was employed by Farview State Hospital, Waymart where he retired.

Alex was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Simpson where he was a cantor and member of the choir

He is survived by nieces, a sister in law and cousins, including Glenn Wengrin and a caring neighbor, Jackie Parry.  Alex was preceded in death by six brothers, Michael, Joseph, John, Harry, Peter and Stephen.

The funeral will be Friday with a Requiem service at 10:00 AM in St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, 33 Midland St., Simpson with the V. Rev. Mitered Archpriest David J. Hritcko, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery, Simpson. Family and friends may visit at the church from 9:00 AM until service.
