D., 83, of Scott Township died at home surrounded by her family on Monday. Her husband of 62 years is Deacon Edwin L. Salva, Sr. Born in Carbondale and raised in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Russell D. and Antoinette Rusin Lathrope, Sr. Carol was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson, received her Registered Nurse certificate from Mercy Hospital Nursing School, Scranton, then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s University, Maine. As an advocate of continuing education, she received a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Marywood University and a Doctorate degree in Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation, Indiana. Nursing, healthcare and caring for the needy were lifelong hallmarks of her life. In her administrator rolls, she gathered and coordinated others to assist those less fortunate in our community. Hers was a life of service which she continued into pastoral ministry. She was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Parish, Montdale. Carol was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and she taught Silver Sneekers in Mayfield. Carol always loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed the many trips she took them on. She is also survived by her three children, Edwin L. Salva, Jr., Scott Township, Andrew A Salva and wife Mary Jo, Childs and Maryanne Bunting and fiancée’ Wilson Leon, Moosic, five grandchildren, Anthony and wife Morgan, Andrew and wife Alyssa, Dani and partner Meg Waddington, Michael and Martin, five great grandchildren, Ryder, Colby, Aiden, Austin and Norah, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Jessica Krawczyk, who was a wonderful caregiver for Carol. Carol was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Lathrope, Jr. and a sister, Jennie Willis. The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Corpus Christ Church, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township to be celebrated by her cousin, the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Montdale. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc, 621 Main St., Simpson. Those attending mass are asked to proceed directly to the church.
