Donald J. Muta, 83, of Simpson died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 59 years is the former Martha Lee.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Semonek Muta. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. Donald had been employed prior to retirement by the Pennsylvania Gas & Water Company.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Church/ St. Rose Parish and was a faithful and devoted catholic.

Don meticulously tended to his lawn and truly enjoyed being in the outdoors. He especially treasured time spent hunting with his sons and grandson. In Slovakian tradition Don was a member of the Jaslickari carolers at Christmas. He loved being with his family and his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the source of great pride.

He is also survived by five children, Donald Muta Jr., Newton Lake, Judy Krell, Carbondale, John Muta, Scranton, Michael Muta and wife Karen, Simpson, Ann Marie and husband Dan Karnick, Waymart, ten grandchildren, John, Christina, Rachel, Lucas, Brian, Juliana, Brandon, Jacob, Sofia and Amelia and four great grandchildren, Kaiden, Rocco, Alina and Ellie, a brother, John, Allentown , nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 Am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Simpson.
