Donald J. Vaverchak,Sr of Simpson passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14th of lung disease. His wife is the former Carole Prestys.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late Joseph & Rose Fortuna Vaverchak. He was a 1962 graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. Donny served in the Pennsylvania National Guard as a sergeant and then began a career in Special Division police work, first with the Pennsylvania State Police for 25 years and then with the Lackawanna County Detectives for another 12 years.   After his retirement, Donny established and operated several business including, Security and Electronics Associates, and with his wife and son, Vaverchak Indoor and Outdoor Storage, and Simpson Equipment Sales and Construction.

Donny was a strong willed and hardworking man of many talents.  Even skills that he didn’t know, he was able to read and educate himself about them as he did for masonry and electrical construction.  Donny was the rock of his family and the guy that was always there for everyone.  His family is sadden and feel empty by the void he leaves but take comfort in the great times and memories they can cherish.   The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, especially Shelly, Kathryn and Lynn.

He is also survived by a son Donald Vaverchak Jr, and companion Annette Borosky, a daughter Deana Kilmer and son-in- law Jeff, a daughter-in-law Rachel Vaverchak.  His four grandchildren whom he adored, Karlee and Ryan Vaverchak and Myha and Macie Kilmer, a step-granddaughter Jenna Mancuso, a sister –in-law Jeanne and husband Tony Blodnikar Jr, two nieces, Melissa Blodnikar and Katrina Keiper and husband Tim, two great nephews, Evan and Lawson Keiper and his best friends and former state police officers, Joseph Scandale, Denny O’Keefe and Armond (Cass) Cassatori.     He was preceded in death by Kendall Keiper, a grand niece.
