Dorothy J. Alvaro, 93, formerly of Carbondale died Friday at the Forest City Nursing Center. Her husband, Louis M. Alvaro died in 1987.
Born in Forest City, she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Harriet Brain Shoop. She was a 1937 graduate of Forest City High School and was a homemaker.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale; the Triple M Club and various church groups. In addition, she and her husband were sextons for the church. She was also a volunteer for Meal on Wheels.
Dorothy was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was always ready to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Forest City Personal Care and Nursing Centers and Dr. Frank Moro for their excellent care.
She is survived by a son Russell and wife Carol Alvaro, Carbondale; two grandchildren, Stephen Alvaro and wife Andrea , and Brian Alvaro; two great grandchildren Alex and Gavin, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Willard and Harry and two sisters, Arlene Kersnowski and Ruth Ruffo.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, Church St., Carbondale with services by the Rev. Doug Posegate, pastor and Rev. John McCarty. Interment at a later date, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
Friends may call Monday from 3 to 6 at the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc , 62 North Main St., Carbondale. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
