Elaine Malefsky, 78 of Dunmore died Wednesday, April 18, 2018. She joins the love of her life, John, who passed away in 2011. She was born in Newark, New Jersey, daughter of the late George and Katherine Szalonkiewiz. She raised her family with her late husband John in Fords, New Jersey and then moved to Dunmore, Pennsylvania. Elaine worked in her younger years at the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and Abraham & Straus. She was also employed by Father & Son and J.C. Penney’s in Scranton, PA.

She loved music, dancing and singing and enjoyed collecting panda bears, traveling to Aruba, gambling and going to Marvel movie premiers with daughter, JoAnn. She was crazy about Thor! She was always the life of the party and lit up the room when she entered. She loved living in California the last six years and making many new friends and lasting memories. Her family was always the most important part of her life and enjoyed bragging about them all.

Surviving are three daughters, JoAnn McLaughlin and husband Richard, LuAnn Carlucci and husband Joseph, Carol Patterson and husband John; a loving brother-in-law, David Malefsky and partner Michelle Dolan; eight grandchildren, Brian McLaughlin and partner Gina Nuzzo; Joseph Carlucci and partner Marisa DeFluri, Crystal and Anthony Carlucci; Jessica Patterson-Cassidy and husband John; Kelly, John III and Kristie Patterson; five great grandchildren, Siara, Brandon, CJ, Joseph IV and Caden; one great great grandchild, Isaac and two nieces, Jennifer and Danielle Malefsky.

The funeral will be private. Arrangements by Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. Simpson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the America Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA  22215 or by email Diabetes.org.
