Obituaries » Etta Martha (Lee) Muta January 13, 1939 - August 16, 2025 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Etta Martha Muta, 86, formerly of Simpson passed away Saturday at the Carbondale Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Donald J. Muta, who died in 2017. Born in Carbondale, the daughter of the late Harold and Etta Jay Lee. She attended Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Etta had been employed by several upper valley garment manufacturing shops over the years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Simpson now Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. Etta enjoyed arts and crafts and sewing for her grandchildren. She treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were the center of her life. The family would like to thank the staff at the Carbondale Nursing Home for their exceptional care of Etta. Etta is survived by her five children, Donald Muta Jr. and wife Pauline, Scranton, Judy Krell, Simpson, John Muta and companion Gina Grizzanti, Vandling, Michael Muta and wife Karen, Carbondale, , Ann Marie Karnick and husband Dan, Waymart, ten grandchildren, John (Debbie) Muta, Christina (Bob) Baresse, Rachel Krell (companion Mark Giordano), Lucas Karnick ( fiance’ Amanda Walters) , Brian Krell, Juliana (Jacob) Crablo, Brandon (Alyssa) Muta, Jacob Karnick, Sofia Muta ( companion Cory Spangenberg) and Amelia Muta (companion Nicolas Novak), eight great grandchildren, Kaiden, Rocco, Alina, Ellie, Beau, Dominic, Leo and Parker, a brother, Walter Lee, St Louis, MO. and a sister, Lois Buckingham, Waymart, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Ralph and Joseph Lee, five sisters, Alberta Lindstrom, Evelyn Gathany, Doris Collett, Freeda Bronson and Anne Marie Turano. The funeral will be Thursday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church St., Carbondale. Interment will be in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Simpson. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
