Frances Sophie Golik, 93, of Simpson, formerly a long time resident of Montclair, NJ, died Friday evening, December 11, 2015, at Carbondale Nursing Home under the extended care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Born in Simpson, Pa, Frances was the daughter of the late Mary (Weber) and Anthony Golik and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, after returning to Simpson in 2007. She was previously a faithful member of The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Montclair, NJ, and their Rosary Society.

Frances was a member of the 1940 graduating class of Fell Township High School, Simpson, PA, and was Salutatorian of her graduating class. She attended Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing, Montclair, NJ, graduating with the Class of 1944.  Frances also attended Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, and Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ, to further her nursing career.  Frances spent her nursing career at Mountainside Hospital, retiring as Head Operating Room Nurse.

Frances was a devoted Roman Catholic and a kind-hearted donor to many religious organizations. She was dedicated to and cared deeply for her family.  As a nurse and later a caretaker, she was patient, kind and thorough with the care of those in her charge.  She was a faithful and devoted fan of the New York Giants and Yankees.  She was an avid bridge player.  She will remain loved and missed by many people.

Frances is survived by her sister, Antoinette (Golik)Cerra, nieces & nephews, Joseph Narcavage, Joanne Nepa, Mary Ellen Roe, Teresa Cerra, Cathy Marino, Edward, Michael and Anthony Golik; eleven great nieces and nephews, Laura, JoEllen, Pamela (Narcavage), Jessica and Nicole Marino, Michael and Zachary Golik, Sandra and Melanie (Michalick), Kyle (Nepa) and Kelsey (Vinton); and 13 great-great nephews and nieces, Grace, Emma, Libby, Ben, Dale, Charles, Meghan, Katelyn, Kiersten, Leif, Gabby, Bella, Skylar, and Liam.

Frances was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, John Novak (Delores), Sophie (Novak) Narcavage (Adam), Edward Golik (Jane), infant brother, Joseph Golik, Sister Immaculata Maria, Sisters of Mercy, and brother-in-law, Joseph Cerra.

There will be no viewing. The funeral for Frances will be Saturday, December 19, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m., St. Rose of Lima Church,  6 N. Church St., Carbondale, PA.  Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery, Simpson, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
