Gerald “ Jerry” Shaffer, 59, of Whites Crossing died Tuesday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton.  His wife of 31 years is the former Lorie Sarnoski.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Mae Reid Shaffer. He was a graduate of North Pocono High School and retired as a foreman for Penn D.O.T.  Jerry was a truck driver at heart and was also employed by Tri-County Container and Nick’s Excavating both of Carbondale after his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry is also survived by his three children, Michael Shaffer and wife Mandi, Newton Lake , Tiffany Shaffer and companion Joe Lloyd, Whites Crossing , Chelsea and husband Robert Gabell, Simpson , five grandchildren Emmalee and Noah Shaffer, Izabella, Dominic and Liliana Gabell, two brothers, Frank and Larry Shaffer, Moscow, nieces and nephews  and a grand pup, Karma Grace.

He was preceded in death by a sister Dianne Legg.

The funeral will be Saturday with a service at 6:00 PM in the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson. Friends may call from 3 to 6 PM.  Masks and social distancing rules will apply.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105
