Gertrude Fedak, 95, of Carbondale died at home on Sunday surrounded by her family.  She was the widow of Basil Fedak who died in 2010.

Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Suchick Tokarchick. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School class of 1944, Carbondale. Gertrude was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Simpson.

Family was very important to her and she was proud of her children and grandchildren.  Her mission in life was in caregiving as she cared for her parents, a niece, brother and other family members. Gertrude had a mantra, “ I was born in this house and I will die in this house”.  Sunday she fulfilled her wish.

She is survived by a daughter Laura and husband Alan Gillow, Peckville, a son, Bill Fedak and wife Cathi, Browndale, seven grandchildren, Abigail, Victoria, Elizabeth, Julia and Max Gillow and Jake and Noah Fedak, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by ten siblings, John,Peter, Paul, William “Wash”, and Andrew Tokarchick,Julia Hodgetts, Mary Lesak, Anna Bartasavage, HelenNayduch and Florence Vaverchak.

The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Moro, Dr. Steven Voyce, and the staff of home Health Care Professionals & Hospice for all their wonderful care over the past six months.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:30 AM in St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, 33 Midland St, Simpson with services by the V. Rev. Mitered Archpriest David J. Hritcko. Interment will be in St. John’s R.O. Cemetery, Mayfield.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St. Simpson. Parastas service will be at 4 Pm and transferal to the church will be at 8 PM.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,  225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, Il 60601.
