Irene R. Mark, 89, of Simpson died Thursday at the VNA Hospice Unit of Geisinger CMC, Scranton.

Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary Podwicka Lescinski, Sr.  She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson class of 1942 and she was a life member of St. Michael’s Church, Simpson.

Irene had been employed by Wallace & Barnes Defense, Bristol, CT. during WWII and then was a waitress in the Catskill Mountains of New York.  She later retired after 32 years with Waymart Knitwear, Waymart.

She was a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt who was a special and perfect mom. Nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Irene devoted her life to her family and they were the light of her life.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at the VNA Hospice Unit and Dr. Dominic Ruggiero for their support and compassionate care.

She is survived by a daughter Cindy Mark Egnotovich, Charlotte, N.C., a son, Attorney Dennis J. Mark, Carbondale, a granddaughter, Natalie Serrano, two great grandchildren, Alessandra Mark and Jaydryan Serrano, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, Andrew Lescinski, Jr, Catherine Lescinski Pilny, Rose Lescinski Boots, Frank Lescinski, Ann Lescinski Pechulis, Mary Lescinski Fleming, Antoinette Lescinski Oprisko, Joseph Lescinski, Helen Lescinski Rames, John and Thaddeus Lescinski.

The funeral will be Monday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc.  621 Main St, Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St, Simpson. Interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 PM.
