James B. Matechak, 44, formerly of Scott Township, died Friday evening at Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Township.

Born June 23,1982, in Carbondale, he is the son of Brenda McDonough Matechak, Whites Crossing, and Daniel Matechak Jr., Greenfield Township. He was a graduate of Lakeland Junior/Senior High School, Class of 2000.

Jim lived a life that was uniquely his own. Though he faced many struggles throughout his life, Jim remained unapologetically himself.

Jim was formerly employed at the Walmart Distribution Center and worked as an inspector for several engineering firms, overseeing PennDot projects. He enjoyed the friendships he made through his years of work and remained in touch with many of his former coworkers.

Jim found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. Some of his fondest memories were made on fishing trips with his grandfather, Pop. He valued spending time talking on the phone with his friends, always having a story or joke to tell. Jim was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, leaving behind many stories and memories that will be remembered by those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by two daughters, Hailey Matechak, Scott Township and Miley Matechak, Carbondale; a brother, Daniel Matechak III and longtime partner Annie, Forty-Fort; a sister, Brittany Matechak and fiancé Mike, Scott Township; a nephew, Daniel Matechak IV; an uncle and aunt, Gary and Anita McDonough, Throop; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Justine Matechak and his maternal grandparents, James and Catherine Williamson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 27^th from 5 PM to 7PM at the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson.  A religious service will begin at 7:00 PM by Pastor Sal Maiorana, of the Waymart Church.
