James R. Pitts, 70, of Simpson died Friday at home. His wife the former Mary Ann Virkitis died in 2015.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Emma Pivornick Pitts. He attended Scranton Public Schools, served in the Army and retired from General Dynamics, Eynon as a machinist.

Jim was a member of SS Peter & Paul Church, Simpson, the VFW Post #4712, Simpson; VFW Post # 25, North Scranton and the Taurus Club of Scranton. Jim was an easy going guy who was always willing to take Mary Anne on any excursions she wanted.  Over the years they have gone to Lancaster, the Pocono’s and on cruises.  He enjoyed fishing including deep sea fishing and visiting casinos.

He is survived by a step daughter, Karen and husband Tom Robinson, Tunkhannock, two step grandchildren, Thomasand wife Vicki,  and Kimberly and husband Justin Lee, three step- great grandchildren, Eli, Alex and Elizabeth, six nieces and nephews, Ronald Pitts and wife Jennifer, Barbara and husband Jason Gerlach, Laurie and husband Vince LaRosa, Mark Pitts, Christine and husband Joseph Tolan and Kelly Pitts.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria “Tootsie” Pitts and two brothers, Ronald and Joseph and a nephew, Eric Pitts.

A Parastas Service will be conducted on Wednesday at 5:00 Pm in the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson. Friends may call from  5 to 7 PM.
