Janet Slick, 78, of Simpson died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday evening at Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Hospital.

Born in Carbondale and raised in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late John “Fritz” and Stella Zrowka Obzud. Janet was a 1965 graduate of Fell High School, Simpson.

Janet lived a life defined by her creativity, hard work, and deep devotion to her family.  She brought joy to others by giving a beautiful haircut, lovingly crafting items, and mending clothing with precision.  Janet’s kitchen was the heart of her home, where she cooked wonderful meals that brought the family together around the table for each holiday.  Janet had a sharp eye for detail and strong work ethic as a medical transcriptionist. Prior to retirement, she proudly worked as a receptionist for Dr. David Tomazic.

Above all of her talents, Janet took greatest pride in her role as a mother.  Her connection to her children was her life’s masterpiece.  She offered endless support, wisdom, and unconditional love, always putting her family first and celebrating every milestone with them.  Janet kept drawings and pictures given to her by her grandchildren for decades, and would adoringly boast about their activities and achievement.

Janet is survived by her three children, Robert Slick and wife Diana, Clifford Township, Melissa Dick and husband Joe and Brian Slick all of Carbondale, her four siblings, Joan Ciotti, June Bifano and husband Robert, all of Archbald, John Obzud and wife Cindy, Miramar Beach, Fl., Jeanne Tolerico and husband Jerry, Jermyn, her longtime companion Phil Bianco, four grandchildren, Amanda Baldwin, Tyler Skasko, Emily Brawley, Jeremy Slick and 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Slick.

Family and friends may visit on Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM at the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson.  There will be a Blessing Service at 7:00 PM.
