Jerome J. Pilny, 74, of Simpson died Friday at Allied Service Hospice Center, Scranton.  His wife of 48 years is the former, Patricia Rowland.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Dr. John J. and Frances Roskosky Pilny. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and served for 6 years in Pa. Army National Guard.  Jerome was employed as an equipment operator for Penn DOT, where he retired after 30 years of service.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, hunting and his archery range.  He was an amateur mycologist. Jerome was a social member of the Paciga V.F.W. Post, Simpson.

Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Jason Pilny and Rebecca, Endicott, NY and Jeremy Pilny and Marilyn, Carbondale, three brothers, John Pilny, Jeffersonville, NY, Joseph Pilny, Cochecton, NY, and James Pilny, Whites Crossing, four grandchildren, Johanna, Allison, Salem and Jerome.

The funeral will be Friday, April 21st, from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson, to be celebrated by his cousin, The Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton. Following cremation   inurnment will be at Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.

Family and Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research  Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
