Obituaries » Joann Somple August 30, 1943 - June 1, 2026 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Joann Somple, R.N., 82, formerly of Simpson passed away on Monday, June 1,2026. Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late John and Anastasia Renczkowski Somple. Joann was a graduate of Fell Township High School, Simpson and Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing, as a registered nurse. Before her early retirement, from multiple sclerosis, she had been employed at Carbondale General Hospital. Joann was later a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital / Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. She was a member of St. Basil’s Orthodox Church of America, Simpson and it’s Sodality Society. Joann is survived by a nephew, Nicholas, a great niece and great nephew, and her caregiver, Kelly Carachilo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis and a nephew, Mark. The funeral will be Friday, June 5th with a Requiem Service at 9:30 AM in St. Basil’s O.C.A. Church, 9 Lord Ave., Simpson by the Rev. Jason Franchak. Interment will be in St. Tikhon’s Cemetery, South Canaan. A visitation will be held Thursday from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson and Friday at the church from 9 AM. Parastas will be Thursday at 4PM.
