John “ Jack” Brennan, 70, of Jermyn died Tuesday at Allied Service Hospice surrounded by his family. The son of the late John and Mary Newcomb Brennan, Jack grew up in Carbondale and attended St. Rose High School. He graduated from Lackawanna Junior College and the University of Scranton with a degree in Business. He continued his education pursing a degree in Nursing.

Jack started his nursing career as a staff nurse in the I.C. U. at Community Medical Center, then transitioned to Nurse Manager of the Neuro/ Trauma Unit. Jack always considered his CMC staff part of his extended family. He was also employed by Abbott Critical Care, Nurse Manager of the O.R. at Wayne Memorial Hospital and retired from his nursing career at Kingston Oncology.

Jack served for 12 years on the Lakeland School Board, holding the titles of both Vice-President and President.

Jack’s greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Paula Terpak Brennan. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this past September, however, as Jack would always say, “ We have been together 54 happy and glorious years.” He was a lifetime soul mate to his wife Paula, an inspiration to his son Jonmichael and daughter Andrea, ”his buttercup”.  He is also survived by a son-in-law, Jason Pantzar, a daughter-in –law, Julie Brennan, five grandchildren, Aidin, Brenan, Graham, Ryan, and Ava,his three sisters, Kathy Bowers, Ellen Smith and husband Gardner  and Elaine Mendicino and husband Mark, several nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Allocci and Staff (Maria), Dr. Karanic, Adrienne Slacktish N. P., Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center (Jenna), Allied Hospice (Gary) and especially the Neuro/Trauma staff at C.M.C., (Jack’s extended family).

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass at 10:30 A.M. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn to be celebrated by the Rev. John C. Ruth. All attending the mass are asked to proceed directly to church.  Interment will be in the Jermyn Cemetery.
