Joseph J. Dragwa, 91, of Simpson died peacefully Tuesday at the Carbondale Nursing Home surrounded by his family.  His wife of 70 years is the former Marie A. Robinson.

Born in Carbondale and raised in Simpson he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Howanitz Dragwa. Joe was a graduate of Fell High School, Class of 1948 and attended the University of Scranton. He had been employed prior to retirement by the Procter & Gamble Company.

Joe was a member of St. Michael’s Church/St. Rose Parish. He was very civic minded and was a member of the Holy Name Society and past president, a member of the Grattan Singer Hose Co. where he was a past president, chairman of the block party and a cook for many of their functions. He was a Scoutmaster and member of the VFW golf league.

The family would like to thank the staffs at the  Carbondale Nursing Home and Allied Service Hospice for their care of Joe.

He is survived by four children and their spouses, Patricia Thomas, Childs, Jodi Cino and Joseph, Simpson, Terry Dragwa and Rose, Waymart and Gary Dragwa and Kimberly, Browndale, five siblings, Priscilla Zrowka, Centreville, VA, Robert, Simpson, Carl, Salisbury, MD, Richard, Forest City and Leonard, Scranton, six grandchildren, Michele, Melissa, Dana, Christopher, Joshua, Lindsey, three great grandchildren Rhylie, Nathan and Hayden, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Warhola and two brothers, Ken and Thomas.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment will be at a later date in Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
