Louise M. Anderson, 95, of Carbondale, passed away on July 20, 2015, at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, PA.

 

Miss Anderson was born in Carbondale, the daughter of the late Clell and Florence (Bishop) Anderson. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale her entire life, elected and ordained an Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She served several terms on the Session and was elected to committee of the Presbytery of Lackawanna and the Synod of the Trinity. Louise was a member of the Presbyterian Women of Lackawanna Presbytery and served as their historian.

 

Miss Anderson graduated from Wilson College with a bachelor’s degree and received a Masters from Case Western Reserve University. She served as faculty member at Case, New York School of Social Work, and University of Pittsburgh. She was an assistant professor at Marywood University.

 

Miss Anderson was elected and served several terms on the Board of the Scranton-Pocono Girl Scout Council. She has volunteered for several years at the Carbondale Public Library, is a member of the Friends of the Library, and a member of the Carbondale Historical Society.

 

Miss Anderson is survived by her nephew, Philip Clell Anderson of Long Pond, PA; her niece, Judith Anderson Updegraff of Knoxville, TN; her niece, Beth Anderson Shawber of Eugene, OR; her niece Melissa Dee Anderson, DMD of Anna Maria, FL; and several great nieces and nephews.

 

There will be no viewing. Funeral and internment services will be arranged at the convenience of the family at a later date. Arrangements by the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 62 N. Main St., Carbondale.
