Luke Brown, 52, of Simpson, PA reeled in his lines and moved to the best fishing waters on December 13, 2018.  Luke was under the competent and compassionate care of Geisinger Health at the time.  His wife and sometime fishing partner, Peggy Brown, survives him.

Born to Rodney D. and Bernadette Brown, Luke was raised in River Edge, NJ, and graduated River Dell High School where he was captain of the football and basketball teams. Before being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Luke landscaped when he had a day off from fishing.  His work enhanced local vistas; vibrant and full impatiens were his signature planting.

Luke was known for his gift of gab, imposing stature, generosity, and ability to amuse young and old alike with stories, competitions, and dares.  He identified as a fat kid, at home among those who were also intuitive about where and which foods were cooking. Uncle Luke manned the grill – his love of family only exceeded by his determination that meat is too good to risk someone’s ruining it.  He took Sunday’s breakfast order by simply asking, “Are you going to be here in the morning?”

Luke enjoyed a casual style and recently celebrated a full year pants-free.  For nineteen years, his loving Peggy had not seen him sans beard until chemo shaved him clean.  If nothing else, Luke was going to be comfortable.  He was immeasurably grateful for Peggy, who assured his comfort until the very end.

In addition to his wife, Luke is survived by stepson Sean McAndrew of Forest City; siblings Mark Brown and wife Nancy, Marion, MA; Patricia Posey and husband Don, Brick, NJ; Shawn Brown, Carbondale, PA; Mary Margaret Brown, Troy, NY; Wendelin Brown, Waymart, PA; six stepsisters; and dozens of devoted and awestruck nieces and nephews. Luke was predeceased by his parents, a brother Craig, and his beloved stepmother, Margaret Mary Copeland Brown. Luke is also survived by his dog, Cookie, and an 8’4” Bumbles, the Christmas mascot of Jefferson Street.

The bears will be thinner and the 4th of July less festive in Luke’s absence.

The family would like to thank Dr. Basu and his entire staff at Geisinger CMC, Geisinger Wyoming Valley, and Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

In honor of a man who will be genuinely missed by so many, the family asks that you take a child fishing, indulge your dog to a ridiculous extent, and take steps to develop relationships with your neighbors, particularly the aged.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec 15, from 10 AM -noon at Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson. A Service and Celebration of Life will start at noon. Memorial donations may be made to C.A.S.T for Kids at castforkids.org or to the donor’s local Christmas bureau.
