Marian J. “Monica” Wanas, 84, of Carbondale died January 27, 2015 peacefully at home with her family by her side.

She was the widow of Paul Wanas who died in 1981.

 

Born March 19, 1930, in Whites Crossing, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Falong Gardus.

 

Monica was a graduate of Ben Franklin High School and later in life earned her degree in cosmetology. She was a kind, fun, loving person. Monica was an active and social individual, as many know from her affiliation with Six East Restaurant . She enjoyed traveling, polkas, bingo, and going to the casino. She always had a bag packed and ready to travel. Holidays were very important to her as she loved spending time with family.

 

 

Surviving are her children; Paul Wanas, Ann Lacock and husband Duane , Joseph Wanas, Walter Wanas, Maria Ogozaly and husband Michael; grandchildren, Alicia, Monica, Brittany, Austin & Alexandria; siblings, Anna Sutor, Sophie Hayzer, Francis Gardus, John Gardus, Melanie Lee; several nieces and nephews.

 

She was also preceded in death by her siblings Anthony, Bernard, Lucille, Joseph, Martha and Pauline.

 

 

The family would like to thank her doctors and care givers for their loving care and compassion.

 

The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc  621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 Am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson.   Interment will be in the St Michael’s Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
