Mary Ann Benwell, 91, of the Forest City Nursing Center and formerly of Whites Crossing died Wednesday.  She was the widow of William H. Benwell, Jr. who died in 2003.

Born in Whites Crossing, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Mary Gandera Rames. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and William Paterson College, Wayne, NJ.   Mary had been employed as a second grade teacher in the Godwin School in the Midland Park New Jersey School District prior to retirement.

She attended St. Michael’s Church/St. Rose Parish.

 

Mary was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, birdwatching, and baking.

 

She is survived by a son, William H. Benwell, III and his wife Diane of Long Branch, NJ; a daughter, Janet Stohler of Woodbridge, VA  a sister, Nellie Cavage, Whites Crossing, one granddaughter,  Vanessa Jacobson, nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Frank and Joseph Rames and three sisters, Anna Lepkoski, Victoria Norton and Helen Rames and her granddaughter, Brooke Stohler.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 621 Main St, Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 Am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson.  Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.  Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 Am until 10:30 Am.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
