Patricia “Pat” J. Slocum, 75, of Carbondale passed away peacefully Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Slocum.

Born in Susquehanna, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Marjorie Bebensee Howell. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. She was a member of the Carbondale First United Methodist Church. She had been employed as a retail manager in various retail stores prior to her retirement.

Pat found joy in preparing homemade meals for her family and friends, tending to her plants and was an avid bingo goer. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and dog, “Baby”.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from Hospice of the Sacred Heart, as well as the staff at Geisinger CMC Henry Cancer Center for the compassionate care provided to Pat.

She is survived by her five children, Joseph Franchak, Aransas Pass, TX., Nicole Franchak, Forest City, Von Barhight and wife Heather, Clifford Township, Robin Tyborowski and husband Mariusz, Clifford Township and Holly Denney and husband Wesley, Aransas Pass, TX.; 14 grandchildren: Kyle, Cherish, Branden, Marissa, Morgan, Haley, Skylar, Kayla, Austin, Jayden, Paige, Joshua, Makenzie and Natalie; three great grandchildren: Wyatt, Hudsyn and Paisley; two brothers: Ronald and Thomas and a sister, Janet; Sister-in-law: AnnMarie Barhight; and several nieces and nephews.

Per Pat’s request, private services were held for family. Cremation arrangements provided by the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home, Carbondale.
