Ralph N. Grecco, 77, of Carbondale died Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 54 years is the former Marilyn Yanchek.

Born in Jessup, he was the son of the late Ralph “Rudy” and Anna Kalafut Grecco. He was a 1959 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Ralph served in the Army during the Viet Nam War.

He retired in 1995, from Farview State Hospital, Waymart as a supervisor.  Ralph also served as a sports editor for the former Carbondale Miner newspaper and wrote the column “Time Out with Grec”.  He was an avid sports fan and had umpired and referee high school sports activities. Ralph was a statistician for West Point, Colgate University and Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Pioneer’s football teams.  He was a fanatic West Point Army follower and regularly attended games throughout the past 50 years.   In addition, Ralph enjoyed Off Track Betting and golfing.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always gave and never asked in return.

He is also survived by two daughters, Maria Wright and fiancée Anthony Meta Jr, Rosedale, MD., Ann Grecco, at home, two grandchildren, Corey Grecco Wright and wife Nina, and Morgan Wright and boyfriend Brandon Custard, a great granddaughter, Adrianna Carmen Wright, a brother, Steven Grecco, State College, a half sister, Laura Grecco, Wilkes-Barre.

A Blessing Service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson .  Interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 Pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Carbondale Chapter 98, P.O. Box 117, Carbondale, PA 18407 or offer a random act of kindness for someone.
