Richard A. Chaballa, 81, of Carbondale died Thursday at Geisinger-CMC, Scranton.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Kominak Chaballa. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale.

Richard attended St. Mary’s Church, Waymart. Prior to retirement he was employed by RCA, Dunmore.  Richard enjoyed golfing, bowling and was a member of the former RCA league. He could often be found watching his beloved Miami Dolphins or completing crossword puzzels. He enjoyed spending Thursday nights at the Waymart Hotel.

He is survived by his two children, Melissa Schwartz and husband Jay, Honesdale, Richard Chaballa, Waymart, the love of his life, Kathy Mitchell, Carbondale, two grandsons, Jason Schwartz and wife Ashley, Steven Schwartz and wife Sara, a brother, George Chaballa and wife Bonnie, Carbondale Township, a niece, Beth Ann.

He was preceded in death by a niece, Susan Chaballa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5th at 11:00 am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson.  Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson. There will be a family visitation from 9am to 10:30 am in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson. Masks are required and social distance rules will apply.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity in Richard’s name.
