Rita I. Derwinski, 92, of Bethlehem passed away on Friday night at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the loving wife of Edward M. Derwinski, who died in 1977.
Born in Carbondale, Pa; she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Angela Maria Gentile. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. After their marriage Rita and Edward moved to Bethlehem where she has resided for the past 57 years. She retired as a sales clerk for Sears in Whitehall. Rita was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
She was an active member of the 55 plus club of Notre Dame Church and a member of the Sears Retiree’s Club. Rita treasured spending time with her family and enjoyed traveling, cooking, being in the outdoors and trips to the casino.
She is survived by her four loving children, Gerianne and husband John Stoll, Harrisburg; Donna Derwinski-Burkert, Allentown; Michael Derwinski, with whom she resided and Edward Derwinski and wife Anna, all of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren, Christopher Stoll and wife Keri, Angela Stoll, Michael Paul Hipszer III, Danielle and husband Michael Richards, Michelle, Amanda, Nathan and Matthew Derwinski; two great grandsons, Alexavier Derwinski and Nicholas Stoll, a sister, Yolanda Scotchlas, Simpson; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Frances Donato, Evelyn Elia, Jacob, Louis, Mary, and Joseph Gentile.
The funeral was held in Bethlehem on Wednesday, April 9th
