Hannivig, 83, of Carbondale and formerly of Simpson died Tuesday at the home of his daughter Hanna. Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Hans and Sophia Drob Hannivig. He was a graduate of Fell High School class of 1959 and was jokingly known as the Carbondale Stink Bomber. In 1963, Ronald served in the Army in Vietnam as a Green Beret and was honorably discharged. He was always a hard worker, doing logging work thru high school , working as a rigger in 1968 and creating Solar Power and gracing the cover of Popular Science magazine in the 1970’s. Ron was a lifetime member of the Walter Paciga V.F.W. Post # 4712, Simpson. He enjoyed investigative journalism He is survived by his children, Jeanne Hannivig-Jones, Robin Munsell, Guy J. Hannivig, Jessica P. Hannivig, Hanna Hannivig and Soerenn Hannivig, seventeen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, niceses and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Kirk Hannivig. A Celebration of Ronald’s life will be Thursday at 12:00 PM in the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St. Simpson, PA. Interment will follow with military honors at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM..
