Obituaries » Shirley L Allen Smith February 29, 1940 - March 17, 2016 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Shirley L. Smith, 76, of Carbondale died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband for 57 years is John A. Smith. Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd & Mae Burnett Allen. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and had been employed in the garment industry. Shirley and her husband also owned and operated Smitty’s Service Station, Carbondale for over 50 years. She was a member of the Carbondale First United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed crafts and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by four children, John K Smith and wife Sandy, Kim M. Maxwell and husband Kent, David B. Smith and Christopher A. Smith, two brothers, Thomas & Randy Allen, eight grandchildren, Tyler, David, Stephanie, Devan, Nathan, Skylyn, Aliccia, Carisah and two great grandchildren, Guilianna and Luca, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 10 AM in the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 62 N. Main St., Carbondale with Services by the Rev. Doug Posegate, Pastor of the Carbondale United Methodist Church. Interment in Sand Banks Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 Pm and Monday from 9 AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Carbondale, PA 18407.
