Stephen Cherinchak, 77 of Waymart, died Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family. His wife is the former Shirley Price of Carbondale.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late Walter Sr. and Angelina Colachino Cherinchak. Stephen served in the Navy for four years and was proud to call himself a United States military veteran. He retired after 30 years of service at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Known affectionately as “Grampa C,” Stephen loved spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards with his family. He loved working in his garage, fixing just about anything that was broken. Stephen enjoyed working with his machines, watching movies, listening to Johnny Cash, and going for strawberry milkshakes. His beloved wife and his cherished dog, Penny, were always by his side. He is preceded in death by his son and namesake, Stephen Bradley, whom he missed dearly. Although his family is heartbroken, they know he is now reunited with Stephen Bradley.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, Stephen is survived by their three children: Shirley Cherinchak Borosky and her husband Gregory of Archbald, Shawn Cherinchak and his wife Rheanna of Waymart, and John Cherinchak of Waymart. He also leaves behind five siblings: Dottie Lee of Jermyn, Walter Cherinchak Jr. of Waymart, Roseann Durst Huddy of Carbondale, Georgianna Cherinchak of Dunmore, and Diane Loughrin of Turnersville, NJ, as well as three beloved grandchildren, Natalie Rose Borosky, Spencer Bradley Cherinchak, and Maddie Raye Cherinchak, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Warhola.

A Blessing Service will be held Friday, August 30th  at 6:00 PM in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson. Military honors will follow. Relatives and friends may visit from 4-6 PM. For directions or condolences visit: www.scotchlasfuneralhome.co
