Tanya Adele Calafut, 52, of Dickson City, PA and formerly of Montrose, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family  on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Born in Bellefonte, PA, she is the beloved daughter of George J. and Francesca Scalise Calafut, Montrose. Tanya is survived by a son, David Calafut, whom she loved and cherished above all things, brother, Adam Calafut, Endicott, NY, an uncle, Andrew Calafut, Boston, MA and an Aunt, Teresa Calafut, Clifford, PA, an Aunt Angela Salloux, Hudson, MA. and numerous cousins.

Tanya was a graduate of Montrose Area High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree  from King’s  College and a Master’s Degree from East Stroudsburg  University. Tanya was a Special  Education Teacher for the Pocono Mountain School District and had a unique talent for teaching students in the Middle School.  She attended The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dickson City and taught Religious Education Classes there for a time.   Tanya enjoyed going to concerts and spending time vacationing at the ocean on warm beachy sands.  She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan ….attending the games and the preseason  Steelers camp in the summer with her brother and son.

A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 10th at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1090 Carmalt Street, Dickson City.  The family will receive family and friends on Monday, May 9th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main Street, Simpson, PA.
