Thomas  “Duke” Rude of Simpson passed away on Tuesday, December 23rd at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, while surrounded by family.  Duke was a graduate of Fell High School, Class of 1975, and a veteran of the Air Force, having been stationed in several locations, including Colorado Springs, Colorado, Anchorage, Alaska and Altus, Oklahoma. Duke was a heavy machinery operator for several employers, including the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Prior to retirement.

Duke is survived by his wife, Kathleen (McAndrew) Rude, five children; Thomas Rude, Kevin Rude and wife Kristen, Ryan McAndrew and wife Christine, Timothy Rude and companion Melissa Shafer, and Christopher Rude and wife Michele, a brother, Robert Rude and wife Debbie, a sister – in –law, Joanne Rude, grandchildren, Blake Rude, Naomi Rude, Natalie Rude, Michaela McAndrew, Olivia McAndrew and Eoin Rude, nieces and nephews.

Duke enjoyed fishing, and was an avid hunter, claiming to have the most well-equipped tree stand in the area, and loved to visit restaurants and casinos and see shows with his wife.  Although, what he enjoyed most was attending sports and school-related events and cheering on his grandkids, Duke has an infectious personality and sense of humor that made even the most difficult of times bearable, and he will be missed by his family and his many friends. The funeral will be Sunday at 7:00 PM in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson with services by Pastor Deborah Loessy of the Berean Baptist Church, Carbondale.
