The Very Rev. Dennis M. Swencki, 78, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday at his home. His wife, the former Marion Osborn died in 2022.

Born in Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen and Emma Popovich Swencki.  Father Dennis was a graduate of Trafford High School, Marywood College with a Master of Science in Religious Education and St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the Holy Priesthood on June 8, 1974 by His Grace Bishop Herman (the late Metropolitan, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America).  Dennis also served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Father Swencki served locally at St. Michael’s R.O. Church, Jermyn, PA, SS. Peter & Paul R.O. Church, Union Dale, PA, and St. John the Baptist R.O. Church, Dundaff, PA.  He was also employed in the offices of the Eastern Orthodox Church in America, Syosset, NY, Duane Morris LLP, Philadelphia, PA and Caesar’s Pocono Resorts, Scotrun, PA.

Dennis will be remembered far more for his personality than his professional resume. While you would undoubtedly want him on your team for a trivia contest, those skills paled in comparison to the intangible skillset he brought to personal interaction. He liked to go big on everything in life but nothing bigger than the genuine love he showed for others. That love was more contagious than even his laugh, and he will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his three children, Melanie Swencki, Harveys Lake, PA, Stephen Swencki and wife Kelly, Bear Creek, PA and Alexis Swencki, Philadelphia, PA, a sister, Kathleen Goich, Clinton Township, MI and a brother, Stephen Swencki, Greensburg, PA, nieces and nephews.

There will be a funeral service for a priest on Friday at 7:00 PM in St. Tikhon of Zadnosk Monastery Church, 175 St. Tikhon’s Road, Waymart.  Saturday at 9:00 AM will be Divine Liturgy in the church and interment will follow in St. Tikhon’s Cemetery.   Family and friends may visit on Friday from 3:30 PM until 6:00 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson.
