Veronica N.( Roni)  Kielar, 84, of Simpson passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Geisinger-CMC, Scranton on Wednesday evening. She was the widow of Paul J. Kielar, who died in 2017.

Born in Carbondale and raised in Whites Crossing, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Rushen Novobilski.  Veronica was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and Lackawanna Junior College, Scranton. She had been employed by Cross Engineering Co., Carbondale and then Farview State Hospital, Waymart, where she retired after 33 years of service.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, now Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale. In her earlier years, Veronica was very involved with the church and was a C.C.D. teacher and a member of the Confraternity of Christian Women Society.

Roni enjoyed her daily phone calls with friends, couldn’t wait to hear how everyone’s day was going and cherished spending time with the family, especially her granddaughter, Gabrielle.

Veronica is survived by two sons, James Kielar and wife Tresa and Michael Kielar, all of Simpson, a granddaughter, Gabrielle Kielar, two brothers, Joseph Novobilski, Simpson and John Novobilski, Carbondale, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, John and sisters, Catherine Turonis and infant Nellie Novobilski.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christina Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church St., Carbondale.  Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Simpson.  Family and friends may visit on Sunday at the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson from 4 to 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carbondale Public Library, 5 North Main St., Carbondale.
