Helen J. Gibney, 90, of Waymart died Saturday evening, surrounded by her family at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. She was the widow of Joseph P. Gibney. Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Adamczyk Lash. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Helen was the owner and operator of Gibney’s Restaurant, Waymart for 37 years and loved her customers. She enjoyed working in her yard and traveling globally with the “55 Better Club” of the Wayne Bank. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Waymart. Helen spent many years caring for her family, especially her mother and sister. The family would like to thank the staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor for their outstanding care and dedication that they showed to their mother during her time there. They would also like to express their appreciation to her aide Diana Rivera for taking her to outings and activities. She is survived by her three children, William Gibney and wife Karen, Honesdale, Linda Gibney, Archbald and Mary and husband Joseph Costolnick, Roswell, GA, eight grandchildren, Karen Cure, Kelly Van Leuven, Kimberly Krisiak, Joseph, William, Douglas, Jeffrey and Jonathon Costolnick, two brothers, Joseph Lash, San Rosa, CA., John Lash, Binghamton, NY, 18 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen M. Gibney, a grandson, Timothy Costolnick, and five sisters, Mary Lash, Mildred Sefchik, Ann Taylor, Rosalia Hauser, Bernadine Muhr and a brother, Frank Lash. The funeral will be Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart. Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church from 9:00AM to 10:00 AM.
