Jacob “Jack” Zerchak, 76, of Simpson died Thursday at Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville. His wife, the former Gertrude “Trudy” Dovin died in 2011.
Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late John J. Zerchak and Anastasia “Tille” Pokula Zerchak Supancik. He attended Fell Township High School and then was a member of the Marine Corp during the Korean War.
Jack was employed by Pepperidge Farms and then held a Thomas’ Muffin franchise. He retired from Farview State Hospital, Waymart. He retired early to devote time for the next 27 years to care for the love of his life, Trudy. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church/ St. Rose Parish.
Jack is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Donald McDonough, Waymart; Darlene and Michael Galinsky, Carbondale Township; five grandchildren, Desiree McDonough and finance Mark Diltz, Donald McDonough and wife Tiffany, Michael Galinsky and wife Kelly and Keith and Randy Galinsky, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment with military honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson.
