Chester J. Kucharski, 96, formerly of Whites Crossing died Tuesday night at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by two wives, Angela DeFazio and Evelyn Sirianni Tarchak. Born in Whites Crossing, he was the son of the late John and Blanche Wenski Kucharski. Chester attended public schools and served in the Navy during World War II. Chester had been employed by Banner Shoe Co / Weeworth Slipper Co., Honesdale and W.L. Douglas Co., Scranton. He also had a franchise with Mineo Pies in Scranton. He retired from Farview State Hospital, Waymart. Chester was a member of St. Michael’s Church/ St Rose Parish. Chet, as he was known, was a member of the Columbia Hose Co., Carbondale and the last remaining charter member of the Bear Paw and Sunset Sportsmen Clubs. He is survived by his son and his wife, John Kucharski and Ann, and their children, Jill Edgington (Patrick), Justin Kucharski (Jerilyn), and Angela Dale (Christopher) , five stepchildren:Thomas Tarchak (Judy), Frank Tarchak (Michelle) Ann Black( Robert), Richard Tarchak and Theresa Salansky, one sister, Irene Bambera, , eight additional grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, John, Stanley, Leo and Thaddeus and three sisters, Blanche Anzalone , Freda Rygiel and Wanda O’Neill, and a grandson, Thomas Tarchak, Jr. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff and employees of the Carbondale Nursing Home and the Gino J.Merli Veterans Center for their compassionate care of Chet. A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Michael’s Church, Simpson, by his nephew, The Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton.
