James P. Plevyak, 78, of Simpson died Friday at Geisinger- Community Medical Center, Scranton. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Frank C. and Anna Gombita Plevyak. James was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He retired as a corrections officer sergeant at S.C.I. Waymart after 30 years of Service. As a young man he worked alongside his dad at Kutcher’s Country Club, Monticello, NY. Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed a “Stella” or Glenlevit while sitting on his deck overlooking his pond. Some of his most enjoyable times in life were on his fishing trips with his brother Fran along with family and friends including his many trips to the Great Smokey Mountains. Jim was an avid hunter and found pleasure in gardening, picking berries, looking for mushrooms and making kielbasa. He was a lifetime member of the Whites Crossing Volunteer Fire Company. The family would like to thank the staff of Geisinger-CMC 6th floor for their care of Jim. Jim is survived by his two children and their spouses, James R Plevyak and Lisa, Browndale, Michele and Scott Bevacqua, Simpson, a brother Robert Plevyak and wife Mary, Whites Crossing, six grandchildren, Corey Plevyak, Ryan and Codie Bailey, Kelsey Bossick, Austin Suchniak, and Abygale Plevyak four great grandchildren, Raelynn and Cohen Plevyak, Violet Bailey and Alyvia Jones, three nieces, Sheri Knecht, Colleen Buell and Charlene Plevyak. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Plevyak-Suchniak, a brother, Francis J. Plevyak and a sister -in- law, Sharon Plevyak. There will be a Blessing Service Thursday at 6:30 PM in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM.
