Joan M. Emmett, 91, of Simpson died Monday at the Forest City Nursing Center. She was the widow of Joseph Emmett Jr., who died in 2007.

Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Lewandowski Cavage. Joan was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Throughout her career, Joan had been employed by several ladies garment manufacturing shops in the Carbondale Area.

She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, Simpson.  Bingo, card parties with her friends and attending the Carbondale Senior Center were some of her favorite activities. Joan was also a Telespond worker and a member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of the Grattan Singer Hose Co., Simpson.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the staff of the Forest City Nursing Home for their care of Joan.

She six survived by her six children, Joseph Emmett and wife Tammy , James Emmett,   Ralph Emmett, Deborah Hardy and husband Bert,  Beverly Curtis, and  Karen Obelinas and husband Ralph,  eight grandchildren, Renee, Tony, Michelle, Craig, Cassandra, Katie Sue, Kayla and DeAnna, fifteen great grandchildren, a brother, James Cavage, two sisters, Elizabeth Fedak and Antoinette Cavage, several nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Bernard, Joseph, Edward and six sisters, Jane Taylor, Julie Tomackovic, Loretta Patton, Eleanor Zelinski, Mary Weidner and Ann Cavage.

The funeral will be Friday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson  with Liturgy at 11: 00 AM, in Ss. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse St., Simpson, by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw. Interment in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
