Our family….

Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. is owned by Joseph W. and Alice Corcoran Scotchlas.  Joe attended Fell High School and is a graduate of Carbondale Area School District.  He attended Penn State University and Simmons School of Mortuary Science, Syracuse, NY.  He interned and worked in Syracuse, Scranton and Carbondale before becoming a licensed funeral director.  Joe is currently a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania and New York. He is also a licensed insurance agent for funeral pre-planning.

Joe is the son of the late Walter A. and Yolanda Gentile Scotchlas.  He married Alice, formerly of Archbald and they have three children: Joseph, Adam and Emily. All whom assist in the family business.  Alice is graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School, Dunmore, Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton and earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Penn State University. She is a 2006 graduate of Simmons Institute of Funeral Service, Syracuse, N.Y. and was Pennsylvania licensed in 2008. Alice is also currently the Director of Professional Outreach at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Joe is a member of St. Michael’s Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Grattan Singer Hose Co. in Simpson. He is a member of the finance council of St. Rose/St Michael’s Parish and the Kiwanis Club, Carbondale. Always a community supporter, he serves as a co-chairman of the Christmas Light Committee and the secretary/treasurer for the Simpson Industrial Redevelopment Co. (Shannon Hill Christmas Star/Easter Cross).  He is a member of “Pennies for Playgrounds” and currently a member of the Fell Township Zoning Hearing Board.  Joe had served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #312, Simpson, for 14 years and was a member of the former Lion’s Club and an Eye Bank Enuclerator. He served as chairman of St. Michael’s Church 100th anniversary committee in 2003.  A paramedic in his younger years he was employed by Scranton’s CMC Hospital with the “ Mobile 1” staff.
