Dr. Stephen “Stu” Zubrod died Tuesday June 16th due to complications from surgery at Geisinger C.M.C. in Scranton, PA.

Dr. Zubrod was born in Tipton, PA however grew up in Hollidaysburg, PA.  He was an all-star basketball player, a musician, a member of the drama club, won awards in science and was voted “most popular” by his graduating class.  He continued his education earning his B.S. from Penn State, followed by his Masters in Theology and then his Doctorate in Psychology(graduating Magna Cum Laude) from Boston University.

Dr. Zubrod is survived by wife Peggy and his children:  Matthew and Denise Zubrod, Danielle and Charles Lartz, Karen and Garth Gotschall, Deirdre and Carl Casey Cacho-Negrette,  Jayme and Kerry Casey;  Grandchildren surviving are Christina, Bode and Finn Zubrod, Cameron, Stephen, and Benjamin Haskins, Nicholas and Carleigh Zubrod, Marcy and Jennifer Gotschall, Ceileigh and Sadie Cacho-Negrette, Devyn, Tyler, Griffin and Riley Casey.  Also surviving is brother:  Michael Zubrod and family, nieces Kyrsten (and William) Wivagg, Alycee Zubrod.  Additional family is Devyn and Jayda Lartz, Debby and Patrick Cardone, The Meehan Family and The Valzania Family.  Stephen was preceeded in death by his loving parents Jack and Emily Zubrod and brother Courtland.

Dr. “Doc” Zubrod served as the Director of S.C.I. Waymart, Forensics Center.  His shoes will be hard too fill as he was immensely admired and respected by his peers and colleagues.  All that worked with him and for him were in awe of his selflessness, quick wit and absolute willingness to help everyone.

Stephen was an avid angler and fly-fisherman.  Recently he became a member of the Creamton Fly Fishing Club.  He spent much of his free time with his beloved companion, a yellow lab named Buddy, either casting a line or pitching a tent.  He was passionate about the Arts, all things nature, music, family and never stopped educating himself.  His special places were Monhegan Island, ME., Lake Pemaquid, Keen Lake, Grants Camp, and the streams of Aspen, CO.  His contagious smile brightened so many in the community as he was well liked by all who knew him.  Standing next to him, you would know you were in the presence of greatness, he was a noble and wise person that will be cherished by friends, family and peers. He could gut a fish one moment and then become teary-eyed reading a card the next minute. He was the kind of man that went out of his way for anyone, for any reason.  Built like a lion, with the heart of a lamb, he will be missed.  Goodbye for now.”
