George J. Chaballa, 86, of Whites Crossing, Carbondale Township, died Saturday at the Forest City Nursing Home. His wife of 63 years, is the former Bonnie Tyrrell.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late George “Jerry”and Margaret Kominak Chaballa. George was a graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale. He served in the Army and also served 5 years in the PA. Army National Guard.  He retired from the Hendrick Manufacturing Co.

George was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Carbondale American Legion Post #  221 , Cottage Hose Co., all of Carbondale and the Simpson V.F.W. Post #4712, Simpson. In his younger years, George played baseball and softball and was a member of the championship team from Whites Crossing. George enjoyed bowling, golf and playing Horse & Pepper with his friends. He was an avid hunter and was a member of Sunset Hunting Lodge.

He is also survived by a daughter, Beth Chaballa and fiancée Dave Daniels, Whites Crossing, nieces and nephews.  George was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue and a brother, Richard.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale. Interment with military honors will be in Valley View Cemetery, Scott Township. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
