Helen Laba Revak, died Sunday at home 9 days short of her 98th birthday. She was the widow of Basil Revak, who died in 2003.

Born on November 9, 1923, in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Petrilak Laba. Helen was a graduate in the 1941 class of Fell Township High School where Mr. Campbell would remark about her beautiful singing voice.

Helen worked for the War Department in Washington D.C. during World War II before returning home to work with her family in Laba’s Store, Simpson which she then operated until 1978. For many years after the store closed her former customers would see her and reminisce about stopping by for a soda, popsicle, Tastykake and they called her Mrs. Laba.

A lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Catholic Church in Simpson, she sung in the choir and was a member of the St. Ann’s Altar & Rosary Society.  Helen served as treasurer for many years along with working the many functions run by the church.

She and her husband Basil danced many times on The Pennsylvania Polka Show on channel 44 and she enjoyed watching tapes of those programs over and over. Helen enjoyed going to Atlantic City for many years with her husband and then with her son John after her husband’s death.  She also enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun Casino in Pittston where the staff and security treated her like a queen.

Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed terribly.

She is survived by her three children, Rosemary Revak Curry and husband Joseph, Michael and John Revak, who was her caregiver for the last twelve months, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Carol Revak and a brother, Vladimir Laba.

The funeral will be Friday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St, Simpson with Divine Liturgy at 10:30 A.M. in Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse St., Simpson by the Rev. Myron Myronyuk.  Entombment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, P.O. Box 124, Carbondale, PA 18407
