Joan Beal, 93, of Simpson died Monday at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA., Scranton. She was the widow of Alexander Beal, who died in 2012.

Born in Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Florence Kelechawa Kulenich. She was a graduate of Mayfield High School.  Joan was employed for many years by the garment manufacturing companies including Penn Children’s Dress, Mayfield and  Cassaro Dress Manufacturing, Carbondale. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Mayfield.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Jewish Home , Compassionate Care Hospice and especially Lisa Sinclair.

She is survived by her nephews and niece, Peter Kulenich and wife Kathy, Scranton, Richard Kulenich and wife Julie, Archbald, Donna and husband Lorne Elliott, Vandling, serval great nieces and nephews and a faithful friend, Mary Edwards.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Kulenich and a sister, Madlyn Kulenich, a nephew, Mark Kulenich and a great niece, Melissa Elliott.

The funeral will be Friday with a Requiem service at 1:30 PM in St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 706 Hill St., Mayfield with the V. Rev. Archpriest John Sorochka, officiating. Entombment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.

The family will receive friends at the church starting at 12:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. John’s Cathedral.
