John  D. “ Jackie” Withka, 88, of Wharton NJ and formerly of Simpson died Sunday at Merry Hart Center, Succasunna, NJ.  His wife is the former Mary Shallock.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late John and Martha Kiehart Withka. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and attended Williamsport Technical Institute. John served in the Army during the Korean War, where he served with the 73rd Combat Engineers.  He is retired from Automatic Switch Co, Florham Park, NJ, after 35 years.

John had attended  Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Church, Randolph, NJ.  As a proud veteran, John  had memberships in The American Legion Post # 91, Wharton and V.F.W. Post # 4712, Simpson, PA, Tri-County Sportsmen Club, Simpson and the former Harvest Club, Lewis Lake, PA.  He was a member of the Local # 3, Electrical Workers Union.

John is also survived by a son, John, Wharton, a daughter, Lisa Ann, Landing, NJ.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Withka and a sister, Janet Warden.

The funeral will be Saturday with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM in Ss. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse St., Simpson by the Rev.  Nestor Iwasiw.  Interment with military honors will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp., Pa.

A visitation will be Saturday at the church from 9 Am until 10 AM.
