John E. Ogozaly, 78, of Simpson died Wednesday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Simpson, he was the son of the late John & Stella Shock Ogozaly. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. John served in the Army during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He retired as a self-employed contractor.

John was active in the Simpson community for many years serving on the Fell Township Board of Supervisors, a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Troop Committeeman. He was also a member of the Grattan Singer Hose Co., Simpson, Tri County Sportsman Association and the Holy Name Society of St. Michael’s Church. He was a member of the Paciga V.F.W Post #4712 and the Carbondale D.A.V. Post # 98. John served as D.A.V. state commander 1998-1999 and as a member of the National Executive Committee of the D.A.V. from 2004-2007.

The family would offer a special thank you to Frank Logalbo, VA doctors and nurses and Uncle Bobbie, all of which who went above and beyond to help.

He is survived by four children, John Ogozaly and wife Susan, Mayfield, Terri and husband Donald Yestrepsky, Browndale and Tracy Ogozaly-Berry and Walter Loff, Archbald, Lori Dancho, Eynon, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, two brothers, Donald, Forest City, Robert, Carbondale, four sisters, Veronica Maslona, East Harford, CT, Patricia Farrel, Manchester, CT , Irene Kirk, Vernon, CT, and JoAnn  Petrick, Florida Keys,  nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Andrew and his wife Mary, three brothers, Eugene, Joseph and Edward and four sisters, Victoria Hunt, Jean Morgan, Mary Horan and Christine Thomas.

A Memorial Mass will be on Monday at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Carbondale Road, Waymart.  Interment will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
