John J. “Jack” Jones, 85 of Simpson died Saturday at the Allied Service Hospice Center, Scranton.. His wife is the former Dorothy M. Runco. The couple had celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in September.

Born in Rome, N.Y., he was the son of the late John J. and Bertha Jubis Jones. He was educated in Rome public schools. Jack then served in the Army, Air Force and PA Army National Guard.

He was employed by the Gentex Corp., Simpson for 28 years and Tonkin Auto Supply, Carbondale for 10 years. Jack was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City, the Classic Voices, Ascension Parish choir and a former member of the Barber Shop Quartet. He and his wife enjoyed long rides in the country.

He is also survived by six children, Debbie Orme, Crozet, VA., Donna Fry and husband Mike, Conway, SC., Terry Jones-Hornung and husband Andy, South Canaan, Kathy Jones-Zawistowski and husband John, Jermyn, David Jones and wife Pam and Jay Jones, all of Thompson, a sister Shirley Jones, Archbald, a sister in law, Dorothy Jones, Archbald, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie Jones, and infant sister, Cecilia Jones, two brothers, Robert and William Jones, a sister, Marcella Casey and a grandson, Jay R. Dickson.

The funeral and military honors will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Ascension Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, 741  Delaware St., Forest City by his nephew, Rev. Edward Casey. Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.

Family and Friends may visit the family on Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allied Service Foundation in John Jones’ name to 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA. 18411
