John J. Mack, 92, of Carbondale died Sunday at Allied Service Hospice, Scranton. His wife of 62 years is the former Sally Baldwin, of Carbondale.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Anna Cain Mack. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School, Elizabeth, NJ.  He served a 36 month tour in the Army, artillery unit, as a forward observer during the Korean War.  Jack was a carpenter and had been employed by Local Union #261 of Scranton.

Jack was a very devoted Catholic with a deep conviction for Christ’s Passion. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale.

Fishing was his favorite hobby since childhood. He was a legend in his own right on the Delaware River. He fished for Walleye from his own boat until the young age of 90. Jack was a promoter of catch and release and helped stock several lakes and ponds throughout the years.  His second hobby was his flower garden which was remarkable.

The family offers a special thank you for the exceptional care given to Jack and the kindness to his family by Allied Service Hospice Center, Scranton and Traditional Hospice, Dunmore.  We will never forget you. Jack will be missed by all of his family.

He is also survived by two daughters and their husbands, Lonnie and Glenn Slick, Carbondale, Carol and Bob Karosus, Ocala, FL, two cherished  grandchildren,  Scott Slick and Lindsey Slick, nieces and nephews including a very special niece , Peggy and husband Jack Majdic, for their love and support all these years.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Yourick.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 A.M.  in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook St., Carbondale. Entombment with military honors will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9:00 A.M.
