John S. Gombita, 78, of Simpson died peacefully Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton surrounded by his family.  His wife, the former Kathryn Marie Gurka, died in 2011. Although his family is broken hearted at his passing they know he is now reunited with his best friend and love of his life.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice Krisiak Gombita. He was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson.  John was employed by Telephone Engineering Co., Simpson. He was later employed by the former Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, where he was a security officer and courier prior to retirement. He received an award from the hospital for preventing a fire.

John lived a simple life and was known for being one of the nicest guys around. He was famous for his video clips while being at McGee’s. He found enjoyment in attending flea markets and using his metal detector or tinkering in his yard.  Spending time with his brothers at cookouts was another favorite pastime.

John formed long lasting relationships with his neighbors and was always willing to help.  His daughters were so thankful that Kathryn chose him to be their dad.

The family would like to thank the staff of Regional Hospital of Scranton for their compassionate care of John.

John is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Lore  Vadella and Michael, Kingsley, Heidi Rowe and Richard, Browndale, Jackie Dragwa and Thomas, Carbondale, four  brothers, Walter & Steven Gombita, Simpson, Robert Gombita, Carbondale, Mark Gombita, Archbald, seven grandchildren, Anthony Vadala, Christopher and Bradley Rowe, Amanda Mead,  Nicholas, Nichole and Nathalie Dragwa,, three great grandchildren, Raegan, Wyatt and Reese, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Jr and David.
