Leona A. “Lola” Dovin, 89, of Simpson died Tuesday at the Carbondale Nursing Home. She was the widow of Andrew Dovin, who died in 1989.
Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Sarah Wasnock Galavitz. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and attended Antoin’s Beauty School, Scranton. Lola was a self employed hairdresser in Simpson for over 35 years.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Church/ St Rose Parish, the Fell Township Golden Age Seniors, where she had served as past treasurer and founding member. A member over 50 years of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post # 4712, Simpson , a past president of the Fell Township PTA and a former member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers
The family would like to thank the staff of the Carbondale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their care of Lola over the past five years and to the staff of Home Health Care Professionals Hospice.
She is survived by a daughter Andrea & husband John Bednarczyk, Simpson; two grandsons, John Bednarczyk , Simpson and Dr. Robert Bednarczyk and wife Erin, Clarkston, GA.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Henemy, Regina Tomsky and Marion Edwards, four brothers Leon, Edmund, Chester & Vincent Galavitz.
The funeral will be Friday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 621 Main St., Simpson with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St, Simpson. Interment in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Friends may call Thursday 4 to 7 Pm, the Golden Age Club will meet at 4:30 PM.
